NIKOLAOS CHRISTODOULOU SOLIOTIS
Freedom Fighter of 1821
Nikolaos Soliotis was the first chieftain to raise arms against the Ottoman Turks before the Greek Revolution was officially declared. The first shots were fired on March 14, 1821 at Portes (Agridi) near the village of Solos. Soliotis took part in many military battles and held important positions throughout the War of Independence. During the period of his military career, he was known for his courage and dedication to the national struggle.

OUR PURPOSE
THE SOLIOTIS PROJECT
This website aims to preserve and present the history and legacy of Nikolaos Soliotis, the chieftain of 1821, whose place of origin was the village of Solos in Achaia (Peloponnesus, Greece). The Soliotis Project involves creating a digital archive that chronicles the important role he played in the Greek Revolution along with the achievements of his progeny. It records the extended family’s past and present contributions to Greek history, politics and culture, including the family’s migration story. It is meant to serve as a repository of archival artifacts and photos that document the family’s multifaceted history.
