The so-called “Old Eparchio” at the intersection of Selinountos and Rokas Streets [today Kontopoulou Street], in an area also known as “Varvaritika,” due to the settlement there after liberation of residents from the village of Agia Varvara Kloukinas. The building was constructed around 1835–40 by the freedom fighter Nikolaos Soliotis from Solo, a raisin producer and large landowner in Temeni, together with his brothers Argyris, Dimitris, and Sotirakis. For a period in the early 1900s, it housed the Secondary School, and later the local Administrative Office, known as the District Office; the District Governor even lived there. Soliotis’s heirs sold it to Ioannis Filias from Plataniotissa, who had a shop on Ermou Street and sold pottery, jars, etc. It still belongs to his heirs today, but it has been demolished and a modern building has been erected in its place. The name “Old Eparchio” remains for the area, although younger generations no longer know it.
