From oral testimonies I received from my mother, Maria Beck–Vasileiadi, and from her father, Georg-Ludwig-Heinrich Beck, I know that the first Beck who came to Greece was the then twenty-seven-year-old Heinrich Beck, an aristocrat with the noble title of count, a personal friend of the seventeen-year-old King Otto and head of his personal cavalry guard, who resided honorarily in the royal palace. There he met, fell in love with, and later married Anna Petmeza, with whom he had at least one child: Karl-Friedrich-Julius Beck, who in turn—as my grandfather and mother told me, though I have found no other evidence—married Athena Tsakiri (on their family grave only her name is inscribed, without mentioning whose wife she was), and they had three children, all of whom I knew: Elli, Loukia, and Georg-Ludwig-Heinrich Beck, who married Alexandra Solioti–Theodoropoulou, with whom he had four children: Athena, Karolos, Maria (my mother), and Panagiotis. Athena died at the age of one from a childhood illness. Karolos committed suicide at the age of sixteen when his parents separated. Maria married Petros Vasileiadis and they had only me, Alexandra, divorced from Athanasios Glaros. Panagiotis married Vasiliki Kakkania and had two sons: Georgios and Karolos-Konstantinos Beck. Georgios, from his marriage to Margarita Bavela, had Errikos-Georgios Beck. Karolos Konstantinos married Eirini Liveri and had Alexandros, and from his second marriage to Kyriaki Palaiologou, Filippos. Alexandros, from his first marriage to Evangelia Kleidara, had Karolos and Michail, and from his second wife, Niovi Traikapi, had Lydia-Vasiliki Beck.
